Rachel Best was born in Yorkshire and studied French and German at Cambridge University. After a 12-year career in finance, her search for adventure took her to the Alps where she met Jean-Christophe Van Waes (on an Italian ski slope) who, when not found either climbing up or skiing down a mountain is a freelance teacher of English and German.
