Between 1971 and 1974 the NSW BLF participated in more than fifty Green Bans and other community actions in support of residents. The Rocks Green Ban was announced soon after the first Green Ban had been placed on Kelly¿s Bush. Nita McCrae, leader of The Rocks Residents Group, wrote to the BLF seeking support for The Rocks community.¿In 1973 we were literally at war with the Askin government and the Sydney Cove Redevelopment Authority (SCRA), with green bans, confrontation, arrests ¿ the lot.¿The Rocks Green Ban was lifted for Sirius to be built especially for local residents displaced by The Rocks redevelopment. It has been a rare example of successful public housing since it opened in 1980. Now the government wants it gone. In 2016, it rejected its own Heritage Council¿s recommendation to list Sirius on the State Register. This book celebrates Sirius and its history and documents it and the people involved with it.
